The moon shone brightly along the shore of the lake as Ivy hurriedly made her way towards the dark, cold water, her soft green and white nightdress blowing around her ankles. She bit her lip, and surpressed a sob. Easy. She just wasn't going to think about it. As she neared the lake, the water seemed so inviting, so nice, almost as if it were calling out to her.
Almost in a trance, she eased her foot into the water, feeling the coldness pierce her foot, and felt a sense of satisfaction. Maybe she could numb the pain away. She waded deeper into the water, her soft nightdress standing out plainly as a splash of white in a portrait of black. Deeper, and deeper she waded. The cold water was like a drug. It felt so good, so very numbing. She felt hands grabbing at her feet, but she didn't care. She kicked them away, and eased onto her back, floating, her rich red hair a circle of liquid fire around her head.

Damon made his way down to the lake, vaguely aware of the fact that someone was running ahead of him, but it didn’t completely register. He continued, at a medium paced walk, down towards the lake. He heard a scream form inside the woods and turned quickly, tripping over a single root on the ground. He sighed and looked at his palm; a thin line of blood ran across it, falling own to his wrist. He shook his head, wondering why he was so surprised by the screams in the forest, and continued to walk down to the lake. When he reached the waters surface he washed his bleeding hand in the icy water, enjoying the sense of numbness it provided him. He scooped some water into his hands and splashed it onto his face. It took him a few more moment s to realize there was a girl swimming in the water no more then twenty feet away.

Ivy lifted her head up from the water, startled to hear some splashing. She saw a silhouette near the shore, bending down, over the water. Who it was, however, she could not make out, for he was bent over, and it was too dark, even with the moon shining, to see their face. It was obviously a boy, for his shoulders were broad. As Ivy squinted, he lifted his face up, and Ivy saw that it was Damon, from her year. "Damon?" she called out, a bit surprised. "What are you doing here?" she asked him, as she made her way towards the shore.

Damon looked over to the girl swimming in the water, realizing that it was Ivy. "Oh, hi" he said, standing up and walking over towards her. "I just fancied a walk down here, you know walk and think. Its too loud back in the common room" he expplained. He sat down on the shore of the beach, clearing away seaweed and muck. He watched her, but his mind was elsewhere.
